HOW CUSTOM, HEAVY TIMBER TRUSSES ARE BUILT

We Interpret What Architects and Engineers Have Planned

After the customer asks us to manufacture the exposed heavy timber trusses, and the paperwork has been filled out, Structural Wood Products starts engineering and detailing shop drawings.

Our shop drawings show what we intend to build for the customer, and are our interpretation of what was planned for the building. We give customers our engineered shop drawings and ask for approval from the engineer or architect of record.

The architect and engineer of record see if what we have drawn fits with the rest of the building. Questions they might ask themselves could include: Will the truss fit onto the column that was drawn?; Are there air conditioning ducts drawn in the same place as the trusses? Structural Wood Products checks and rechecks shop drawings to minimize errors.

If there is going to be a change made to the truss design or wood finish, this is the time to make it before materials are ordered or manufacturing is started.

Below is one of our shop drawings of the Blue Ash Bistro truss:

Production begins after shop drawings have been checked.
